Session 1
Hesed – Marriage is meant to be a reflection of God’s steadfast love. That steadfast love is not just something God does – it’s *who He is*. And as we live out a commitment to love our spouses, even in their weakness and imperfections, we bear the very image of God.
Session 2
Dabaq – In marriage, God joins together husband and wife. That joining together includes hope and love, but it also includes baggage, and differing backgrounds and expectations. In the midst of these tensions and challenges, it takes great intentionality to move towards Oneness with God and one another rather than to drift towards Isolation.
Session 3
Agape – We all change. If love is merely a feeling whose object is changing, it cannot endure. The biblical vision of love goes beyond a feeling: It is a love that prioritizes the good of another, just like the love that God has shown us.
Session 4
Luo – Conflict within marriage is an inevitability. When we handle it poorly, or avoid it altogether, it can breed bitterness and contempt. But when we handle it with humility and forgive one another as God has forgiven us, conflict can actually lead us toward growth and Oneness.
Session 5
Yada – We often think intimacy within marriage should be automatic, but in reality there are any number of things that can stand in the way. As we grow in understanding our spouses and seeking their interests, we can develop deeper intimacy.
